Favorite Photography Spots in LA

WELCOME TO MY FIRST BLOG POST. I had typed something up but it all got deleted... Long story short, I've wanted to do this for awhile, something about it being 2018... blah blah blah, hope you enjoy!

Here are some of my top photography spots in LA that I love to go to/been once but will go back again. ;)

1. Noguchi Gardens (aka California Scenario)

611 Anton Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

The garden is between two tall glass buildings (as seen below), you can't miss it! (but you will miss the garden if you miss the buildings) You have to pay for parking on weekdays but there is free parking at Costa Mesa Mall, which is right across the street, and its only a block away.

Entrance to the garden is FREEEEEEE and if you go before noon, you will more than likely have the whole place to yourself.

2. James Turrell Skyspace

600 N College Way, Claremont, CA 91711

If you're looking for a peaceful/quiet place to explore, this is it. For parking, there are neighborhoods around the area that you can park at but on the weekends, the lot next to the Skyspace is available. This spot is on a campus so be aware of students walking around or studying! The city that surrounds this Skyspace is SO CUTE. I would totally recommend exploring after you come here.

Also, I regret not coming here at night when the lights turn on. As seen HERE. This is one of those "been once but will come again" places.

3. Downtown LA Rooftop

914 S Hill Street, Los Angeles 90015

I’ve been seeing this rooftop all over Instagram and I FINALLY found it (thanks to my friend Madi). I wanted to do a shoot here for so long and I finally had the chance! I planned a shoot with model Taylor Hammonds (I’ll be blogging my favorite photos from that shoot soon) and I LOVE how the photos turned out.

Some things to keep in mind...

  1. Early Mornings are the BEST time to come because you get the whole rooftop to yourself.

  2. It’s $5 to park in the lot but less than 2$ for metered parking if you’ll be there for < 2 hours

When you get to the 6th floor (the top of the parking garage) you’ll find a door to the right of the elevator. Walk through the doors and go up the stairs and you’re at the very top! Everyone goes to the “Jesus Saves” side of the lot but on the opposite side there’s a beautiful light blue building you have to see.

4. Walt Disney Concert Hall

111 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles 900012

Everything about this building is BREATHTAKING. I've shot here a handful of times and I get amazing photos every time. Parking is a little expensive but I haven't found a better/convenient option than parking under the Concert Hall. If you find a cheaper option PLEASE let me know.

The underground parking elevator takes you up to the streets and if you walk out and to your right, you will see stairs that lead up. Follow them and make your way around the entire Concert Hall. You might get lost, but that's the fun part! You just have to be careful that you don't go during a concert because they lock the doors surrounding the hall and you miss out on all the great spots.

Let me know if you have any cool spots in LA that you love to shoot at. I have yet to explore more of Los Angeles but I will be posting all about my adventures here on this blog. Now that you know of these locations... grab a friend, explore, have fun and take lots of pics.
